Why we’re partnering with Prostate Cancer UK

launch

Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers. In fact, by 2030 it’s likely to be the most commonly diagnosed cancer overall. Yet many people don’t know exactly what it is or how to look out for key symptoms or risk factors.

We’re partnering with Prostate Cancer UK to help raise much-needed funds and awareness of the disease. More than 120 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer every single day, and over 11,500 men die each year.

One of our own Club Insure team, Lloyd, was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer in 2016. Lloyd was just 43 when he was diagnosed, told he had between just five and 10 years left to live.

After years of treatment, including hormone therapies and chemotherapy, Lloyd is continuing to fight to enjoy as much time as possible with his wife and two young daughters. His positivity and bravery inspires us all every day, and Lloyd never fails to brighten our day with his trademark sense of humour whenever he’s in the office.

Many of you will know our Associate Director, Lloyd. He’s been part of the Club Insure team for nearly ten years and is much-loved by our team and our customers.

Just a few months after being diagnosed, Lloyd took part in his first fundraising event and has been an active Prostate Cancer UK ambassador ever since. Lloyd’s determined to beat the odds, hoping that research into new treatments will be developed to extend his life so his daughters won’t grow up without a father. And we want to help him in that mission.

Club Insure is a family-owned business, and our team are an extension of this family. Justin, our CEO, and the Club Insure team want to create a long-lasting legacy for Lloyd.

What does the partnership involve?

We’ve pledged to raise £75,000 through donating £5.00 per new or renewed policy as part of a three-year partnership agreement with Prostate Cancer UK. But we hope to donate even more money than this for the leading men’s health charity, and have set ourselves the target of raising £5.5m through further fundraising activity. Many of our team are already planning their own individual fundraisers!

A large part of our mission will be raising awareness of prostate cancer and showcasing the important work Prostate Cancer UK does. We insure over 4,000 sports, social, political, community and private clubs across the UK. The Club Insure team will be working with clubs to encourage them to run their own fundraising initiatives, reaching out to their members to raise awareness of prostate cancer.

We come face to face with Prostate Cancer UK’s target demographic every day. How many of your club’s members know the key symptoms of prostate cancer or how to get checked? Our mission is to make sure more men know the risk factors and know when to see their GP and get treatment before it’s too late.

We’ve crunched the figures and we reckon we can reach 1.75 million people over three years. But we can’t do that without your help.

How can you help?

If you own, manage or are part of a club, you can help us raise money and share our campaign’s message.
