Yorkshire folk; famed for grit, determination, pride and ‘spirit’ (and winning more Olympic medals at London 2012 than any other county!) have risen heroically to the challenge of delivering a world class event.
A cacophony of talents have collaborated on many unique projects pre-event, including York residents planting yellow flowers to ‘yellow-wash’ the city – in honour of the famed jersey. Local artists, Young Farmers and Pennine Prospects fashioning 12 expansive land art installations across the South Pennines and Timothy Taylor’s brewery producing ‘Le Champion’ beer in celebration.
2014 will mark the first time Le Tour has visited the north of England, having previously only made visits to the south coast and the capital.
Stage 1/Saturday 5th, sees the likes of Froome and Cavendish line up on The Headrow, Leeds, alongside 200 cycling supremo’s. The first stage from Leeds to Harrogate is a 190km ride against a backdrop of breath-taking scenery both urban and rural.
Stage 2/Sunday 6th will challenge the most experienced cyclist, as the peloton take on the iconic climbs and sporadic undulations from York to Sheffield.
Watching the event
Official free-ticketed spectator hubs, featuring big screens, catering and entertainment, will host a combined 45,000 expectant fans in Leeds, with further hubs situated along the route.
However, with excessive road closures, travel disruption and ‘foreigners’ ascending/descending into Yorkshire, being at the race in person might not appeal to everybody; even ‘us hardy Yorkshire lads and lasses.’ Live television coverage, provides the perfect opportunity for local sports, social, political, community and private venues the chance to rally the community and throw ‘Le Tour’ parties, whilst reaping the monetary benefits!
Adequate insurance for events
Many of Club Insure clients are actively supporting Le Tour by opening their doors to the thirsty and hungry, one brave club has even given up their land to allow camper vans a home for the weekend!
But in doing so it has been essential for them to notify Club Insure to ensure they are fully compliant with their policy – additional insurance may be required e.g. has new technology been installed? Is an increase in money/capacity covered?
So in an effort to ease the pain of another failed world cup bid or take your mind off Murray, why not hang out ‘Le Tricolore’ bunting, raise the white rose flag and celebrate all that is wonderful about the world’s largest annual sporting event. Allez Allez Yorkshire!
