Inclusive Sport

Sport England has launched ‘The Inclusive Sport’ programme, whose aim is to increase the number of disabled young people and adults regularly playing sport. The programme is being run in a number of different rounds. The first round saw 44 projects benefit from over £10 million of National Lottery investment. You can see the detail of these organisations here.

Round two of Inclusive Sport is now open to applications and will remain so until 5pm on 2 December 2013.

2013 Sportswomen of the Year Awards

The annual awards for celebrating the outstanding contribution to sport made by elite performers, coaches, administrators, community volunteers and inspirational female figures are almost upon us. Nominations are now open until midnight on Monday 4th November across the seven different categories.

The seven categories are:

  • The Community Award
  • The Sunday Times and Sky Sports Sportswoman of the Year
  • Young Sportswoman of the Year
  • Team of the Year
  • Disability Sports Person of the Year
  • Lifetime Achievement Award
  • The Helen Rollason Award for Inspiration

English Institute of Sport appoints new Chair

UK Sport has appointed John Steele to chair its science, medicine and technology arm – the English Institute of Sport (EIS). Steele was previously the head of the Youth Sport Trust and the former chief executive of the Rugby Football Union (RFU) and UK Sport.

EIS was established in 2002, and now has more than 250 staff providing approximately 4,000 hours of sport science and medical support to over 1,700 athletes across the country and at camps and competitions overseas every week.

Steele’s appointment comes at a very important time as athletes focus their attentions on winning more medals at the Olympic Games in Rio in 2016.
